Rides to the polls

Need a ride to vote?
We will take you.

Free rides to your polling place on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, or to early voting at the County Clerk's office in Salem. Any registered Marion County voter can ask. This is a get-out-the-vote service for the county, not for any candidate. Nobody will ask who you are voting for, and nobody will talk politics in the car.

How it works

A neighbor at your door, and home again.

01

Find your polling place

Election Day voting happens at your own precinct's polling place. Look it up on the Illinois State Board of Elections site with your house number, ZIP code, and street. Not sure, or no internet? Leave it blank and we will look it up for you.

02

Ask for a ride

Fill in the form below, or call or text (706) 973-7697. Tell us where to pick you up, which day, and the time that works. Anyone helping you can fill it in on your behalf.

03

We call to confirm

A volunteer calls you back to set the pickup time. Your driver takes you to vote, waits outside, and brings you home. If you need help to the door, a walker or wheelchair space, or a second rider, say so on the form.

04

Early voting, or not registered yet

Early voting is at the Marion County Clerk's office, 101 E. Main St., Salem, through Monday, November 2. Illinois lets you register and vote the same day there, so if you are not registered, we can still take you. Call the Clerk at (618) 548-3852 to confirm hours.

Request a ride

Tell us where and when.

A phone number is the one thing we have to have, so the driver can reach you. Everything else helps us plan.

Rather talk to a person? Call or text (706) 973-7697 and we will fill this in for you.

Every voter in this county should be able to get to the polls. A ride should never be the reason someone does not vote.

Anything the driver should know

Rides are free and open to every registered Marion County voter, whoever you vote for. This is a nonpartisan get-out-the-vote service. Read the disclaimer. Your address is shared only with the driver assigned to you. Read the Privacy Policy.

Already voted? Drive a neighbor.

Your vote is in. Now help someone else cast theirs.

If you have already voted early or by mail, you are free on Election Day. An hour or two behind the wheel can get several neighbors to the polls who would not otherwise make it.

The driver rules

  • The ride is for every voter. Never ask who someone is voting for, and never make the ride depend on it.
  • No campaigning in the car. No pitches, no literature, no talk about the race. If the rider brings it up, be polite and change the subject.
  • Stay out of the campaign-free zone. Illinois bars electioneering within 100 feet of the polling room entrance (10 ILCS 5/17-29). Drop off and wait outside the cones. Leave campaign shirts, hats and buttons off while driving.
  • Do not go into the booth. If a voter needs help marking a ballot, the election judges will help, or the voter chooses who assists them.
  • License and insurance first. Before you are approved for the driver list, you must show the campaign your valid driver's license and current proof of auto insurance. Nobody drives a voter until both are checked.
  • A clean, safe car with a seatbelt for every rider.
  • We call you before your first ride to check your license and insurance, confirm your details, and give you your pickups.
When can you drive?

A ride to vote, for every voter.

This ride program is a nonpartisan get-out-the-vote effort for the voters of Marion County, Illinois. Rides are not given on behalf of, or in exchange for support of, any candidate, party, or ballot question. Rides are free and are never conditioned on how, or whether, a rider votes for anyone. No rider will be asked who they are voting for, and drivers do not campaign, hand out literature, or discuss any race.

Volunteer drivers are approved only after showing the campaign a valid driver's license and current proof of auto insurance. Drivers use their own vehicles and are volunteers, not employees or contractors. Drivers stay outside the 100-foot campaign-free zone at every polling place (10 ILCS 5/17-29) and do not enter the voting booth. A voter who needs help marking a ballot may ask the election judges, or choose a person to assist as Illinois law allows.

Ride requests depend on volunteer availability and are confirmed by phone; please request early. For questions about registration, your polling place, or early voting hours, call the Marion County Clerk at (618) 548-3852. Ride information is used only to arrange your ride and is shared only with your assigned driver. See the Privacy Policy.
